" Rich Hill and Josh Reddick were traded to the Dodgers for Jharel Cotton, Frankie Montas and Grant Holmes.
The X-factor in this trade for me is Josh Reddick. Josh Reddick has finally hit his MLB stride that experts have been predicting since he first came up with the Red Sox. And I for one am extremely glad to see it.
Rich Hill and Josh Reddick, both former Red Sox have both had amazing, career years. Rich Hill hasn't pitched for about the last month because of blisters on his throwing hand but is still holding a below 3.00 ERA.
Now for the prospects that the A's got in return, the top prospect they recieve is now the #3 prospect in the A's system Grant Holmes. Holmes is a RHP that is in A Advanced. The 20 year old pitcher can beat you with his electric fastball that can reach triple digits when he wants it to but make you look silly with his breaking ball as well. His swing and miss stuff made him average 10.4 K's per 9 innings in the past two years. Out of all of Holmes pitches his most impressive is probably his electric curveball, man, his curve ball can make high level prospects look like they have never seen a curveball before.
The A's also recieved Frankie Montas, former Red Sox prospect, who's fastball is by far his best pitch and could be seen on the A's this year. Montas is thick and by thick I mean that he's kind of fat. When Montas takes the mound the hitter can expect a fastball anywhere in the range of 92 mph to 103 mph. That's an elite fastball. Also, his fastball has unique movement but other than the fastball his other pitches are below average and many suggest that being a reliever would be a better use for Montas. I agree. With a head turning fastball and a little more help with this breaking pitches he can be a great set up man.
Also the 24 year old pitcher Jharel Cotton was sent to the A's, Cotton is one of those guys who has worked and worked hard to get to where he is today. He is an undersized pitcher standing at 5'11 but has ramped his fastball up from the 89 mph region to the 96 mph region. The fastball combined with a ridiculous change up helps make Cotton a top 30 prospect in the A's system. But because of his size and the effort it takes to throw every pitch, Cotton gets tired quickly in games and projects more as a reliever in the MLB and a good one because of his work ethic.
Jay Bruce was traded to the Mets for Dilson Herrera and Max Wottel.
Honeslty to me this seems like robbery, the Mets stole the RBI leader in the NL from the Reds and didn't give up their best prospects?!?
Max Wottel is an extremely young LHP in rookie ball. He has a tall frame standing at 6'3 with a very deceptive arm motion. A lively fastball for a 19 year old at about 95 mph. He was once said to be one of the best high school prospects in the NC area in 2015.
Now for for the main attraction for the Reds, Dilson Herrera. Dilson Herrera is a 22 year old second baseman "prospect" from Columbia. Herrera is going to be a great second baseman. He showed his power, speed and athleticism in the minors that have and will translate to the major league level. This is a huge loss for the Mets and he is hard to replace but the Mets are all in to win now with their young, strong and talented pitching staff. They needed to upgrade their OF and power hitting, what's a better way to do that than trading for the RBI leader?
