Wow, I definelty did not see this coming for the Astros but I think it's a wonderful signing. The Astros gave Carlos Beltran 1-year $16 million a year. This is a good deal for the Astros, they needed some serious veteran presence in the lineup with a very talented, young team. With stars such as Altuve, Correa and Springer an addition of Beltran is huge to the lineup and the locker room. Likewise, they also have young up incoming talent such as Bregman and the addition of Beltran will allow Bregman to ask question necessary for a young star to a potential hall of famer. The deal allows the Astros to have Beltran, who was phenomenal for his age last year, for one more year, hoping to get the same success as the Yankees got. And for the price tag, $16 million might seem like a lot but it really isn't. He is going to fill a hole that needs to be filled for the Astros, veteran presence and a left fielder. People might say, "What about Aoki?". And they would be idiots because Beltran is a million times better than Aoki and it's not even a question.
For Beltran this is a great move as well, Beltran has never won the World Series and is playing for that reason only. He has aspirations to be the champ and chose a good place to do it. With all the young talent in the rotation and the lineup, Beltran found a good home for a good amount of money. Likewise, he is now reunited with his formee teammate Brian McCann who will be the starting catcher on Opening Day, who also gives some great veteran presence.
The Astros lineup looks scarier now with it possibly being,
Springer
Bregman
Altuve
Correa
Beltran
Reddick
Gattis
McCann
Gurriel.
I did expect Beltran to be the Red Sox next DH but with him now on the Astros, watch out for the Astros.
