The newly acquired super utility infielder Matt Duffy has taken the shortstop position from Brad Miller. Miller is having a break out year for the Rays. And the news that Duffy is taking over short is shocking. I am not a fan of this move. The reports have stated that Miller is moving to first base to continue his season at the position. Miller has been one of the best shortstops that the Rays have had in multiple years. He has hit 17 HR and is hitting .250 in this year in his age 26 season. Miller is young, controlled until 2020 and his performance has been on the rise. Why would an organization mess with the production of Miller so far this season by making him learn a new position?
It is well stated that Duffy can play SS, 3B and 2B, so why is it necessary that the Rays give Duffy the position that Miller owns? Duffy played second base for the Giants last year and he played well. Why are the Rays moving Miller and possibly hurting his offensive production for Duffy? When they can just put Duffy at second base and have him play over Logan Forsythe.
This move boggles my mind. More dumb management from the Rays.... Shocking
