Honestly entirely unprofessional. Fellow classmates and friends even family of theirs have decided to start up their own blog as a way of expressing creative differences. Nate and Zack believe that they are better than us for no particular reason. Zack made claims in his article, one in which he calls our site a dumpster fire, that we don't blog enough. I'm a hockey blogger. Hockey hasn't begun yet and trust me when the World Cup starts and when the season starts I'm all over it. Shawn hasn't blogged much either but college football has not started yet either. Both pretty valid reasons not to have blogged a whole lot yet. Listen I'm not going to stoop to their childish level of name calling and public bashing of our great site but what I will say is grow up. For real. Learn how to spell and crack a book. Oh and by the way having our blogs organized is far better than a random clump of them on one page. Just saying. Have a good sleep tonight kids.
Coveted free agent Jimmy Vesey finally chose a team; the New York Rangers. After leading everyone on, and having half of the league salivate over signing him, the 2016 Hobey Baker winner chose the blue shirts.
Reports are that his final three teams were the Rangers, Blackhawks, and, you guessed it, the Bruins. Now, Vesey expressed a lot of interest in playing close to home, giving the Bruins a massive advantage with him being a Massachusetts native. However, reports also say that he was concerned about the pressure of playing for his hometown club with such a passionate fanbase. And that is SOFT. S-O-F-T. This reminds me of when Nathan Horton left for the fucking Florida Panthers because playing for a team that is under such criticism, as all Boston teams are, was just too much for him to handle. And that's when I lost respect for Horton. Here, is where I lose respect for Vesey as well. If you're gonna bitch about the pressure, get out of here. You're a professional hockey player. You are paid MILLIONS of dollars to play hockey. We as fans are allowed to scrutinize you. And that's not to say that New York isn't going to put pressure on him, because it is. But Boston is a much larger hockey market, and probably one of the toughest markets to play in. However, maybe it wasn't Vesey. Maybe it was the Bruins. As we know very well, Boston's front office is among the worst in the league. Sweeney is no better than Chiarelli, Neely has a track record of HORRENDOUS moves, and Julien refuses to let young talent develop on the ice. So two things could have happened: 1) Vesey saw Julien's handling of great young talent and decided he wasn't going to let his career be affected by Claude's idiocy. 2) Vesey gave the Bruins the opportunity to close out a deal, and they blew it; something this group of morons is very capable of doing. But here's another thing: how does a kid who hasn't stepped foot on the ice in the NHL cause this much of a craze throughout the league. Yeah, he's a great player, but he hasn't proved shit. Yet, there were teams getting celebrities to tweet at Vesey and beg him to come. He got the KD treatment, and he has logged 0.00 minutes in a professional game. Yet, no matter what it is, this goes down as another one that got away for the B's; something that has happened way too often lately for this organization. This offseason was arguably the most crucial one for the team in recent history, and they failed to accomplish anything. Buckle down for another disappointing season folks. Okay so we really need Vesey. Not just because he's awesome and ran show at Harvard, he's the type of young talent that this franchise needs to give it a kick in the behind. Guys like Vatrano and Spooner have stepped up recently and you can't forget about Pasta. Adding another young talent to that list who has the speed to compliment the team nicely? That would do wonders.
Who remembers when the Bruins had the #2 overall draft pick? Well I would hope you do because it wasn't that long ago. The 2010 NHL entry draft was a special one for Boston because the Kessel trade gave us one of the best players in the NHL today, Tyler Seguin. Everyone knew it was going to be Seguin and Hall in the top 2 but it was almost impossible to decipher who would go first. All Bruins fans, myself included, were completely fine with either choice because you could just tell they were both going to be studs. Edmonton takes Hall first and the rest is history.
Let's just take a second to appreciate Claude's stubbornness because I know as well as the next guy that for some reason he hates rookies. He's been better with it lately but still. Hates them. However in 2011, a year in which the Bruins were shaping up to be a promising contender, Seguin saw a lot of ice time for a rookie (74 games played). By the time the playoffs role around Claude decides he will keep Seguin in the lineup. He plays on and off and has 7 points over 13 games. His magical performance against the Lightning is by far my favorite memory of him in Boston. His breakaway goal on Roloson was a thing of beauty. He was 19 years old and a Stanley Cup champion. Next comes the part where all fans get really frustrated. After 3 years and 2 Stanley Cup appearances, Peter Chiarelli decides to trade our young star for Loui Eriksson (lost to free agency) and Reilly Smith (traded for Jimmy Hayes!!! YES!).... Now as much as this race hurt at the time it's fair to say it hurts even more now. Somehow it keeps getting worse. But at Chiarelli just traded Hall to the Devils for a "maybe" defenseman in Larsson. It's nice to see him start his BS in another city. All in all I miss you Tyler but I can't wait to crush your dreams in the Stanley Cup final someday. You didn't fit in our system anyway. (Stats per hockeyreference.com) Okay so it's not a game that I'm particularly excited to watch considering we constantly get smashed but The Boys From Above (that's what I like to call them). The US had a pretty literal golden opportunity back in 2010 but let's quickly move past that... We only have a couple glorious moments to hold over the Canadians, like when Gary Suter crosschecked Wayne The Great One Gretzky back in the Canada Cup in '91, or the actually Gold Medal our boys won after beating them in 1960. But the tastiest victory was in the 1996 World Cup of Hockey when we stole a victory on their own damn soil (let's not talk about how they smashed us in 2002 on our soil though). The point is, this game is mega important. I know I said I wasn't particularly excited but j lied. I can't friggen wait. I just hope it's not refereed by more damn Canadians this time. Let's not forget that in 2010 AND 2014 the refs both times were all Canadian. I'm not saying that's why we lost but that's pretty much why we lost. History says it's our turn. Canada has had this coming. America OWNS the World Cup of Hockey. And I can't wait to see them win it all. By Trevor Flaim
Antoine Vermette was waived by the Coyotes today, and a lot of Bruins fans see him as an attractive name for the team. They have good reason to, considering the B's were on the bring of acquiring him at the last deadline. However, only trouble can follow the acquisition of this aging center.
First off, the Bruins don't need another center. Already, they have Bergeron, Backes, and Krejci, three natural centers, and will have to move one, most likely Krecji, to the wing. They don't even have enough room for those three, let alone another veteran in the mix. Not to mention, the emergence of Ryan Spooner last year as a mid-line talent makes it hard to see him on the fourth line. Even if you eliminate the crowded roster, Vermette gives ample reason for Boston to stay away. His production is in alarming decline, and he has had only one 40 point season in the last five years. His +/- hasn't been positive since 2009. And, even though he will be a relatively inexpensive signing, the Bruins should value every dollar of cap space after seeing danger of their recent visit to "cap jail". But, knowing Cam Neely, Don Sweeney, and the Bruins front office, Vermette will be signed, and the youth of the organization will never see action on the big stage. Which leads me into another rant for another time. |
