Malcolm Butler and Logan Ryan are locked in as the Patriots starters at corner and their is no question about that. The secondary was beat up towards the end of the season last year. They had no depth and were looking all over the place to find a body. This year should be different. They invested a second round pick in Cyrus Jones, resigned Justin Coleman, who was alright last year. There is good depth in the first four and they have one more spot to fill. Darryl Roberts is a 2015 seventh roud pick who had a good amount of hype last year but landed on the IR. He has hype again this year and I am onboard. He canalso absolutely fly, he ran a 4.36 at the combine. As can his competitor, Jonathan Jones the UDFA out of Auburn, ran a 4.33. He has impressed during camp. He plays the ball real well and ad a pass breakup in the end zone last night in his first NFL game.
It's an interesting spots for Bill and Nick Caserio because I don't think they can really go wrong with keeping either of them. In my opinion you can only keep one and that one is Darryl Roberts. I see Roberts as a valuable part of the secondary's future. I think this kid can play and could be the third corner of the future. After Logan Ryan leaves and Cyrus Jones teps up to number two, Roberts will be the next man up for the third spot.
