Jamaal Charles' 2015 season ended early because of a torn ACL, he will turn thirty in December. For a running back that makes his money on being explosive, it is going to be tough to get back to the player he once was. The Chiefs went on to win eleven straight games as soon as he got hurt. Are they better off without him? Ware and West were awesome in his absence last year. They can do it again, and there is a loaded running back class in the 2017 NFL Draft.
The Chiefs should trade him. It may sound crazy but it isn't. According to ESPN dot com, the Chiefs could have traded him to the Eagles or Dolphins for a third rounder in this past draft. I think the Eagles should have absolutely one-hundred percent make that deal. It does say in that same article that it may have never even have been offered.
The Chiefs could draft Nick Chubb in the first next year if they are not comfortable with West and Ware long term, even after giving them extensions. They will also be cleared of his $5.3M cap hit this year then his $7M hit next year.
The Eagles are stuck with Ryan Matthews as their premier back, Charles would be an instant upgrade.
The Eagles should offer the Chiefs a 2017 third rounder for him. That may seem like too little but taking on a thirty year old back coming off of a torn ACL with his sized cap hits should be cheap.
