The Bengals went 12-4 last season and won the AFC North but ultimately fell to the Steelers in a heart breaker at home. Their offense last year was awesome but their playoff short comings can be tracked down to Andy Dalton breaking his thumb. Their offense was great, Green, Sanu, and Jones were a top tier core in the NFL. Jeremy Hill and Giovanni Bernard were a great tag team duo in the backfield. They both complemented each other nicely. Tyler Eifert was a good tight end and was good down the stretch but got hurt.
But times have changed. Hue Jackson, the offensive coordinator, left for the head coaching gig in Cleveland. Sanu left for Atlanta and Jones left for Detroit. It is an understatement to say this is a huge loss. They tried their best to replace Jones and Sanu with former Patriot Brandon LaFell and the University of Pitt's Tyler Boyd.
AJ Green and LaFell will be manning the outside of the field while Tyler Boyd mans the slot. Andy Dalton says that Boyd has made a "huge jump" throughout training camp.
I for one, am a huge fan of Tyler Boyd, I liked his game coming out of Pitt and was excited he ended up in Cincy instead of a place like San Fran. Boyd had 91 catches for 926 yards last season, which made him a second round pick. In my opinion, this kid is the real deal and will more than replace MArvin Jones and create a great one-two punch with AJ Green over the next four to five years.
