There are a lot of bad head coaches in the NFL. Like a lot. But there is nothing you can do about it when a certain team out west fires an awesome head coach who becomes an awesome college coach, I wonder why he is awesome in college? The fact of the matter is, is that there are going to be coaches fired at the end of the year. There always are, some become coordinators, some do other things. There are coaches who get hired who will get hired who should be a coordinator for life, while there are other who actually deserve it. Also, there are head coaches now who should be coordinators.
Todd Bowles is first up. This guy was a great defensive coordinator for Arizona a little while back before replacing Rex Ryan with the Jets. Bowles has been a disaster. He is on the verge of losing his job and the locker room. Manish Menta wrote today that he won't play Bryce Petty because the team will give up on him. The guy is afraid to name a starter for their next game. He just is not cut out to be a head coach. He is a guy who belongs as a defensive coordinator. A team like the Jags should bring him in as DC in the offseason after he gets fired from the NYJ. Let him get his hands on their young defense should work. He did a great job as the DC in Arizona, he can do it again in, potentially, JAX.
In Pittsburgh and Green Bay their teams are underperforming. The Steelers are at 4-5 and the Packers are also at 4-5. They both have had the same coaches for awhile now. Maybe they are getting stale. Word is, is that Big Ben is growing uneasy with Tomlin. Firing Tomlin is not the answer in Pitt. Tomlin is a top tier HC, while Mike McCarthy is not. MM is not a good coach. He should be fired. Time to switch it up in Green Bay.
A couple teams who have bad coaches who should consider firing them are San Diego and Tennessee. The thing is with Tennessee is that they are actually good. They are a good up and coming team who has a shot to win the division. Mike Mularkey was a dead man walking to start the season. People, including me. thought he was gone for sure. But he has earned his way to getting another year as HC. He could only be around this year because Josh McDaniels wouldn't interview until the Patriots were eliminated. Maybe they still fire him for McDaniels. There is no doubt he has done a good job with this Titans team.
Two jobs who will definitely be open are Jacksonville and Chicago. There are a few guys who are ready for the job of HC. McDaniels, Sean McDermott the DC in Carolina, and Matt Patricia the DC in New England. There is going to be a severe house cleaning going on in Chicago. Like everyone is going to get fired. Sean McDermott should be the new HC there. He can build something there. The new GM, whoever he is, will swing a deal for Jimmy G and they will have something to build with. JAX should hire McDaniels. Give him that young, potential filled offense and you will have something special. McDaniels and Bowles to JAX and they will ahve success.
