Dion Lewis, LeGarrette Blount, Brandon Bolden, James White, Donald Brown, and Tyler Gaffney are all in contention to make the final fifty-three. However, only four should make the roster. James Devlin isn't considered a running back in my opinion he's a fullback. Devlin will be on the team because he is the best fullback in the NFL and the run game was hurt without him last year and they were terrible on the ground. It is because of the absence of Devlin.
Dion Lewis:
Lewis is the best back on the team and without a question will be on the roster. It is stupid of me to even say that because it is too obvious. Lewis is one of the best receiving backs in the league and one of the most agile. He could make every guy miss last year. Can he do it again, coming off the torn Achilles? I'd like to think so. Ben Volin said a couple days ago that he could be on the PUP to start the year but Jeff Howe quickly said that he will not be. I'm going to trust Howe here because he is probably my favorite guy on the Patriots' beat andVolin is a troll. He'll be the starter in week one in Arizona.
LeGarrette Blount:
Here is where it gets interesting for me. Blount is simply not a good running back. He is good for this team though. I do not want him on the team. I would much rather give the roster spot to Tyler Gaffney or Donald Brown. Blount was brutal in my opinion last year. I don't want to watch him for the Pats again next year. But, he gets a break this year with Brady being suspended. They are going to be relying on the run game more than they would than if Brady was there. As much as I don't like Blount, I would rather give him the ball twenty-five times in Arizona than Gaffney or Brown. I think he makes the team, but if not for Brady, I think he'd get cut.
Brandon Bolden:
Bolden is a nice player. He plays a ton of special teams and steps in the backfield when needed. The special teams play is his meal ticket, its the only reason why he is on the team. If he was just a running back he would have been cut last year. But he plays special teams and he is awesome at it. He is going to be on the roster.
James White:
Three running back in, one more can be on the team. James White is the favorite to earn this spot. White stepped up last year in the absence of Dion Lewis. He is a great option out of the backfield for this team, but only as a pass catcher. He was simply not good running the ball last year. In typical Patriots fashion, it looked like White could have somewhat replaced the runningback that came before him, like Lewis with Vereen and Vereen with Woodhead and Woodhead with Faulk. But Lewis is here to stay as is James White. White is a dependable back and has the experience to make the squad. I'm a fan of White and love him as a receiving threat.
Donald Brown, Tyler Gaffney and DJ Foster:
Donald Brown will be cut and maybe catch on elsewhere. He has had anice camp but he missed a coupl day last week and this week. There is nothing that says that he can stay healthy all year long so he's gone. see ya later. TYler Gaffney was so good at Stanford but he just could never get healthy in the pros. If there is some way he could get on the practice squad it would be a slam dunk in case Blount goes down. Foster will end up on the pracric squad since he is an UDFA. There was soething going around that he was pushing White for a roster spot. He won't push him all the way and will end up on the practice sqad and be the most talented player there.
