With two back to back disappointing seasons, the B's look like a dumpster fire. Clearly, Chiarelli was only part of the problem because we are still the worst managed team in the league. Our promising team from 3 years ago is in shambles. Bergeron is on the back 9 of his career. Let's be honest, we're in a deep hole that will be tough to get out of. But luckily, I'm here to help. This is what must happen:
1) I have a hunch- no, I know for a fact that Neely and Sweeney were pulling strings behind the scenes the past 5 years, and using Chiarelli as a scapegoat. Just to be clear, I am in no way saying that Chiarelli was good. He was just as bad as these two clowns. They hit blames everything on him. I don't care that the two of them are Bruins royalty, we need new management. They have screwed us in the Seguin trade, the Hamilton trade, the Boychuck trade, the Iginla deal, the Chris Kelly deal, handling of Chara, etc... Bring someone in that has something to lose. Someone that will carefully execute trades and deals, and not be careless like these two.
2) Improve the roster itself. As much as I hate Claude, he can't do much with the shit team he is given. We need to get Chara the hell out of town and give Bergy the "C". Z should have been traded after 2013. We waited way too long and his stock is virtually worthless. But maybe a playoff team this year will be looking for a veteran d-man to add depth, and might give us something remotely valuable. Build around Bergeron, Marchand, Kreckie, Backes. That is a solid core. But it sucks if they're surrounded by trash. Get some real players to Boston whether it's via trade or free agency. Establish some sort of defensive core. We have already devoted ourselves to Krug, so let's just run with it. But we have to add experienced defensemen. No, not Chara experienced (old, washed up, worthless). More like Cam Fowler (always in trade talks) or a Brent Seabrook-type.
3) FIRE CLAUDE. Yeah, he has a bad lineup. But he should at least make the playoffs with this team. I don't expect a lineup like this to go anywhere past the first round, but not even being there is embarrassing. He refuses to let young players develop. Now this year, when we have a lot of roster turnover, we will have 5 or 6 players that have never set foot on the ice, or have had very limited time in the NHL. He is just as guilty as everyone else in the front office. Get a coach that values the development of talent, and, as Felger says, doesn't roll out the Fribble line. I'm sick of Claude and his terrible game management. We need a coach that will let the offense be creative. This dump and chase shit isn't supposed to be used all game every game. Just doesn't work.
4) Now that we have Khudobin back as a solid #2 goalie, Tuukka doesn't have to play 70 games a season. Lighten his workload so he is fresh for playoffs (hoping we make it).
Now that these steps have been taken, we still won't make the playoffs. But, it sets up a brighter future for us to possibly do something good with what we have.
